Artist’s statement
Longtime friends and local artists Sheila Tintera and Sharon Thomas come together for a joint exhibit in the Center Gallery opening during the Fall Arts Festival on September 9. Thomas explores the ideas of origin, transformation, regeneration and energy using color, form and subject to navigate questions about the nature of existence. Sheila’s landscape paintings are also a response to elements and energies manifested in the natural world: big sky, mountains, alpine desert, rivers and canyons, and especially trees. This series shows expressive color and brush work, highlighting trees, forests and places from the quietly mundane to the awe inspiring.
Artist’s Bios
Sheila Tintera was raised in rural NY on an 18th C. farmstead giving her a deep appreciation for country life and the natural world. Transitioning to an historic log cabin at the edge of Grand Teton National Park where she now lives and maintains her studio has allowed her time and access to high alpine desert life with all the flora, fauna, extreme weather and expansive views. Sheila studied fine art painting and printmaking at Massachusetts College of Art, Southern CT State University, Silvermine School of Art and Art Students League. An award winning artist, she has exhibited extensively throughout New England until moving to Wyoming, where her work can be seen at various venues throughout the Teton Valley, including Yellow House Collective in Jackson, WY.

Sharon Thomas was taken with life away from the Southern California suburbs on a visit to Jackson Wyoming. The vastness of the landscape and the charm of small-town life called her. Years later after countless art classes at night and finally full-time immersion, a degree in art was earned with a special focus on the figure at California State University Long Beach. Back to Wyoming. There were art fairs, group shows, a gallery, furniture painting and teaching art classes. Responding to this landscape through her art has led to thoughts about both the beauty and unforgiving mountain terrain as she explores the continual cycle of the seasons and life demonstrating its resilience in all its forms.
