Miracle Seminole is a young quilt maker enrolled in the Northern Arapaho Tribe from the Wind River Reservation. Her mother, Cherokee Brown has taught her the art and tradition of quiltmaking passed down from her grandmother.

After High School and the challenges of covid, Miracle intentionally decided to learn quilting from her mother Cherokee as a way to build her life back up from a very hard place. Her mother learned quilting from her grandmother and has passed down these family traditions and skills to Miracle.

Cherokee taught her the traditions and meaning of the symbols of the star quilt, consisting of eight points, four which represent the cardinal directions north, south, east, and west and four that symbolize the stages of life: infancy, youth, maturity, and old age. Each point compliments the others and together these points, colors and meanings create a unique design. Prayers and positive energy are embodied in each quilt by the maker to be passed along to the user of the quilt. This art form has been passed down for many generations within native american families throughout history.

This exhibit is part of Native Voices: Honoring Indigenous Voices and made possible by the Center for the Arts, Wyoming Arts Council, and Central Wyoming College. The exhibit will be on display in The Center Commons April 30th – June 27th, 2025.
