Dr. Shlim’s unique presentation reveals his personal story, discusses theories on the origin of compassion, and how it is possible to train one’s capacity for compassion, allowing it to be more stable, more inclusive, and more effortless.
About Dr. Shlim:
Dr. David Shlim ran the world’s busiest travel medicine clinic in Kathmandu, Nepal for fifteen years, during which time he was fortunate to receive personal instruction from Tibetan lamas on how to train in compassion. He is currently the director of the Medicine and Compassion Project, based in Jackson. The project produces instructional material on how to train in compassion and puts on retreats for medical professionals. He is also currently designing a medical school curriculum on compassion.
About the Art and Healing Series:
The Art and Healing Series is a collaboration between Center for the Arts and St. John’s Health. The series is meant to be responsive to the times we are living in by providing programming that supports the health and well-being of our community. The series runs September-November and will present speakers and art exhibitions on both The Center Campus and at St. John’s Health.
