Invisible Threads by Mona K. Monroe
Exhibit: August 14 – September 30

Fall Arts Festival
Sunday Art Walk
September 20 | 11 am – 3 pm

A multi-disciplinary artist based in Alta Wyoming, Mona Monroe creates a personal visual language to fill the voids and empty spaces in life. A sense of fragmented remembrances informs her work, telling stories about loss, identity, the forgotten past, curiosity, hope and completion. The surfaces of her paintings are heavily worked and scratched through the skin, scraped deeply to uncover the history hiding underneath, created with the intention of a slow emergence of details. Mona is especially fond of used and familial garments and incorporates collage, sewing, stuffing, wrapping and binding into her work. A lifelong obsessive gatherer, she has a diverse collection of unrelated “stuff”. Living in the rural community of Alta Wyoming brings nature into her process. She often will hang materials outside in the trees or bury them in the snow for a ritual cleansing and gathering of stories.
