Inverted Florarium Opening Reception

Inverted Florarium is an art installation at Center for the Arts that explores ecology, resilience, and perspective through softness, inversion, and the playful reimagining of a natural form. A large bloom, inspired by Wyoming’s state flower – the Indian Paintbrush (Castilleja spp.) — hovers, upside down, above a field of colorful blossoms. The flower’s tendrils connect and tether the shapes below. The surrounding glass courtyard — functions as a terrarium, framing the installation as both ecosystem and specimen. Minton draws on the tradition of soft sculpture, while infusing the work with an ecological sensitivity and surreal humor. Minton’s artistic practice consistently engages with the intersection of human perception, natural form, and material use. The reclaimed paraglider wing fabric speaks to the transformation of manufactured objects into symbols of interconnection between people and nature. The sculpture’s softness is both material and metaphor — suggesting care, adaptability, and transformation. The play between micro and macro scale — the small wildflower made monumental — encourages viewers to reimagine the quiet power of native plants and the subtle intelligence of ecosystems.
