Harlem Gospel ChoirCenter Presents
January 19, 2013 8:00 pm
The world famous Harlem Gospel Choir is America's premier gospel choir and has traveled the globe for 25 years, sharing its joy of faith and raising funds for children's charities. The Choir was founded in 1986 by Allen Bailey, who was inspired to form the Choir while attending a celebration in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Cotton Club in Harlem. The Choir presents the finest singers and musicians from Harlem's Black Churches & the New York/Tri-State area.
The Harlem Gospel Choir has shared its message of love and inspiration with hundreds of thousands of people around the world. Through its dynamic performances the Choir strives to create a better understanding of the African American culture and the inspirational music called gospel as it relates to the black church. The theme of every performance is "bringing people and nations together and giving something back."
The Choir's voices reflect the renaissance of Harlem's culture and the New York spirit of gospel. Their rich harmonies and dynamic sound are always "unfettered and joyous." Their songs of love, hope and inspiration will touch the depths of your soul, lift your spirit to angelic heights and take your breath away! The Harlem Gospel Choir is the original "real deal" straight from New York, and their music embodies the true spirit of gospel.
Over the years, the Choir has performed with such superstars as Bono, Keith Richards, Andre Rieu, Josh Groban, Sinead O’Connor, Simple Minds, Live, Robin Gibb, Kim Wilde, Lyle Lovett, Diana Ross, Harry Belafonte, Brooks & Dunn, Ashford & Simpson, Jimmy Cliff, and the Chieftains. The Choir has been featured on many TV shows, including Top Chef, The Colbert Report, Good Morning America, The Today Show, Good Day New York, and The Early Show. In 2008 the Choir performed in front of 60,000 people at Yankee Stadium for Pope Benedict XVI, and in July of 2009 the Choir performed for the world in Times Square as part of the memorial service coverage on ABC TV honoring the life and legacy of Michael Jackson. The Choir has also had the pleasure of performing for Royalty, President Obama, Nelson Mandela and Sir Elton John.
