Resident Spotlight: Steph Fellows, Art Association
By Sara

Here at the Center for the Arts there are 17 different non-profits that operate within our walls. The building is a bee hive, everyone working hard toward different goals. We appreciate all of ourresident organizations whose staff make it their full time goal to develop and present the arts to the community. We would like to introduce you to the people who pursue their passions here.
Thus, we are introducing a new feature called Resident Spotlight, where we will focus on a staff member from one of the many different non-profits at the Center for the Arts. We thought we'd start off by introducing to you a newbie in these parts who you might not have had the chance to meet, Steph Fellows. Steph is new to the Art Association, which is one of the Center for the Arts' largest resident non-profit organizations and also one of the oldest to the Valley. Although she has not worked with the Art Association for very long, Steph is a critical member of their team, always working hard on a multitude of projects.
When asked what her role was, she answered, " I am the Membership and Volunteer Coordinator...but I dabble in all things. I love this job because every day I get to work on something different. Some days I work on development, some days I'm planning openings, some days I get to interact with the kid's programs. The main theme of what I do is interacting with past, present, and future enthusiasts of our programs."

The "What is the Art you are Living?" Chalkboard at the Q Roadhouse and the Farmer's Market and another prompt coordinated by Steph, the "When I was 5 I wanted to be..." that also appeared at the People's Market.
Steph is a vital member to the Art Association team, using her efforts to coordinate on a variety of events for her organization. She created a 20' long chalk board inscribed with the words, "What is the Art You Are Living?" The board was created to inspire community members to get their minds back to a vital part of life- art. There were no rules or limitations as to content; everyone was free to express themselves. The chalkboard premiered at the Q Roadhouse in July for the 'Doomtree' hip hop performance and has made appearances at the People's Market since.
What's next for Steph?

She is coordinating a truly amazing event, the "Maize for Maasai" photography exhibit to be held in the Center park tonight, September 1st , 2011. Photographs from the remarkable photographer Morris Weintraub will be available for purchase, with all proceeds being donated to East Africa. It's a free event, so what better way to support two great causes than to bring your friends, enjoy great art, and perhapsbuy a photograph or two.
When she's not working at the Art Association, you can find Steph skiing in the winter, or doing something otherwise outdoorsy. Steph is a very active woman, using her lunch time teach yoga at Inversion, swimming at the Rec, or hiking the mountain. We all love Steph here. She is a vivacious, free spirit who is passionate about art and life.
The Executive Director to the Art Association, Nick Van Hevelingen, has said about Steph, "I call her 'Radar' because when I ask her to do something, she's usually already done it!"
Steph is a great example of the caliber of staff at each of Center for the Arts' Resident Organizations. From the beginning, she has made it her daily duty to provide the arts to the communities. We are quite pleased to be able to introduce you to her, and to the many staff here that we will feature in the future.
Come to the Center, meet Steph, you won't regret it. After all, she's a jolly good Fellow...
