A new celebrity at the Center for the Arts!

A new celebrity has emerged at the Center for the Arts! He's two and a half years old, three feet tall, and has a shaggy, golden tail. That's right, we're talking canines! Blue, the golden doodle, a special mix of golden retriever and poodle, will portray the role of Sandy, joining an all local cast in Off Square Theatre Company's youth production of Annie. Dogs are not usually allowed in the Center Theater- but actors are!
Blue's owner, Shelley Olson, gave us all the details about Blue's big break. Until just a few short months ago, Blue was like any other dog: running, hiking, and chasing squirrels up trees... all the doggie favorites. Then a family friend suggested Shelley take Blue to audition for a role that she believed was perfect for him. Blue auditioned alongside a dozen other aspiring canine actors, confidently displaying his good manners and ability taking direction.

The moment Blue walks into the building he is greeted by fellow actors and staff alike, all eager to pet his fluffy coat and pat his head. He is adored by all, and you can tell from his gentle approach and wagging tail that Blue enjoys the attention. It's not all just fun and games for a canine actor though, Blue must attend rehearsals and learn his cues, just like everyone else. Blue is assisted by dog trainer, Thomas Mikkleson, while at rehearsals. It's a friendly reunion for Mikkleson and Blue, as he was the trainer who instructed Blue as a puppy.
